Winterize Your Cooler

Protect your investment from freezing temperatures. Follow this 15-minute guide to prevent costly pipe bursts and rust damage.

1

Turn Off Water Supply

Locate the water shut-off valve (usually sending water up to the roof) and turn it completely off. This is the most critical step to prevent frozen pipes.

Tip: If your valve is stuck, do not force it. You might need a plumber to replace it.

2

Drain the Tank & Line

Go up to the cooler and remove the overflow standpipe (the tall tube in the drain) or open the drain plug. Let all water drain out of the pan.

  • Disconnect the water supply line from the cooler fitting to let it drain completely.
  • Use a sponge to soak up any remaining water in the bottom of the pan to prevent rust.

3

Disconnect Power

Unplug the unit from the receptacle inside the cooler (if equipped) or switch off the dedicated breaker at your electrical panel. This prevents accidental startup during winter.

4

Install Cover & Damper

Slide the damper (metal sheet) into the slot between the blower and the duct to stop heat loss from your home. Finally, install a heavy-duty canvas or vinyl cover over the entire unit.

Why cover? It prevents rust, keeps dust out, and stops cold drafts from entering your home.
